Citizen Science Step 6: Project Write-up

Hi everyone! I am back with more progress on my app design for Citizen Science. I have decided to create an app that encourages people to go beyond recycling. Don’t get me wrong, recycling is good but we are still using the same amount of trash we always do. By using reusable materials, we are decreasing the amount of trash that is thrown away which will help the environment.

My app will be based on the idea of a plant growing. The user will be able to select their good deed they did that day which will allow the plant to grow and prosper. The app will also allow the user to buy new plants to grow and check on their fellow eco-friends’ profiles to see how their garden is doing. The app will also help the user learn how to recycle by having a section where the app will scan the photo of the item you wish to recycle. The app will then tell you which bin to place the item in. This will help the user avoid placing the object in the wrong bin which would mess up the whole system of recycling.

The image above shows the basic flow of my app. It displays the user’s journey through the app and shows all the different types of screens the user will see. I plan to continue to develop this app by focussing on the design of how the screens will actually look to the user.
